Description
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act protects the educational rights of homeless children and youth from Pre-K-12th grade. Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, homeless children and youth have the right to receive the same free, appropriate public education as their peers.
Educational supports may include: supplemental school transportation, tutoring, mental health supports, school supplies and materials, and education and training for the parents of homeless children and youths.
Housing referrals through the local school district liaison to local community housing resources
Federal and state statute requires all LEAs, regardless of McKinney-Vento grant funding, to provide transportation to the school of best interest for the child, which is most often the school of origin.
